What means How are things coming along

How are things coming along?

People might ask you the question “How are things coming along?”. It means that you had previously told them about something, like a project you were working on. If so, they might be asking you “How is it progressing?”

This question usually serves as a greeting and a conversation starter that is used for asking about “How is it progressing?”
It’s similar to “How is it going?”, “How are things?”
By the way, there is a important different between them: “How’s it going?” or “How are things?” are general greetings that needs just a brief and polite response;
As a general greeting, you can say, ‘Fine!’ or ‘Great!’ or ‘Not too bad’ or even ‘Terrible!’.

But as a specific greeting, the question “How is it coming along”
asks about how your progress on a task is going. A task mentioned earlier in the conversation or the last time you spoke.

For example, a customer takes his car for repair in the morning. She returns in the evening and the first things she says to the mechanic is “how is it coming along”.
It means “The repair service car is completed or not.”

In some cases, it can be used as a greeting, but will still mean “How is it progressing?” If person A knows about person B’s progress on an important project, they may start conversation, “How’s that project coming along?”

This question is made when there is something particular happening during a time. “I see you’re studying your book. How is it coming along?” would be an example.
