But, in public places, such as shopping malls, airports, restaurants, and offices, they usually use “restroom” instead of “bathroom.”
Since ‘toilet’ and ‘bathroom’ were seen as rude or awkward, Americans looked for a better public word without mentioning bodily actions. They chose a softer, indirect term. ‘Restroom’ is a polite way to refer to a public toilet. The term started in the late 1800s.
In other words, what means restroom, restroom is a polite substitute for public facilities. So, All public places, like airports, railway stations, Restaurants, offices, and department stores in the US helped promote the word ‘restroom’. A Place that is considered to be a comfortable spot where people could take a short break to comb their hair, freshen up, and adjust their clothes, not just for pooping and peeing.

“Lavatory” once just meant a place to wash hands. Now it’s often used on planes. Americans found that calling the whole room a “toilet” sounded odd. They use ‘toilet’ for the fixture, not the room. Some Americans call it a washroom, a place to wash hands.

Let’s now look at what words are used for “restroom” in other countries.
In Canada, the most common euphemism is ‘washroom.’ Canadians use ‘bathroom’ to refer to a toilet at home.
In the UK, WC (Water Closet) was once more common and is another euphemism for a room with a toilet. It is a less direct way of saying ‘toilet’. They tend to use the toilet, or loo, mostly in women’s and Men’s toilets.
Of course, some of the older people refer to it as the “water closet” or WC.
In the Philippines, people use the term CR (Comfort Room).

These differences can confuse people from countries where toilets and bath facilities are separate.
What “bathroom” means does not matter to me—whether toilet, comfort room, or WC. They are the same to me.
